The Circle Conference 2010
Abu Dhabi Film Commission presents the 4th edition of The Circle Conference 2010, a development conference aimed at creating new filmmaking opportunities in the Middle East. The Circle Conference brings together top producers, financiers, executives and filmmakers from around the world to Abu Dhabi.
Through the Circle Conference the international & the regional entertainment community comes to Abu Dhabi to share their knowledge with events such as panel discussions, master classes, collaboration lunches and the Shasha Grant pitch competition.
Last year, The Circle Conference invited top icons from the international film & TV industry as well as a number of top international and regional filmmakers, producers and directors to share their industry expertise and perspectives on current trends with fellow regional filmmakers; among those attending were Chairman of New Regency Pictures Hutch Parker, President of CBS Network Television Entertainment Group Nancy Tellem, Chairman and CEO of Stadium International Stewart Till and Chairperson, CEO of Eagle Vision Media Group & a Producer Sh. Al-Zain Al-Sabah, and President of Participant Media Ricky Strauss, all of whom were impressed with the Emirati culture and with Abu Dhabi as a city, and expressed their intention to visit again for business or leisure.
This year’s participants include Quinta Communications Founder Tarak Ben Ammar, Endemol Chief Commercial Officer Tom Toumazis, Rotana Studios President Dr. HalaSarhan, Kuwaiti producer and financier Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti producer Walid Al Awadiand Syrian director NajdatAnzour.
The conference will also feature panel discussions and workshops on topics including global investment models, the global sports media business, women in film in the Middle East, the rise of mobile technology, 3D and other new production and distribution platforms, and regional co-productions and location filming in the UAE.
For the first time this year, ADFC will debut a business-to-business social media platform at the Circle Conference allowing registered guests to network and organize meetings online.

Shasha Grant 2010
SHASHA 2010 Fact sheet
The Shasha Grant registration was opened in April 2010 and closed in July 10th 2010.
We had over 123 interested applicants in which 76 submitted qualified under the guidelines.
As we introduced the Arabic scripts this year, we had 33 scripts in Arabic and 43 scripts in English and what was very encouraging is that 17 scripts are from UAE-based writers
Finally, 20 are selected for final reading by an international panel of script readers and developers, from Hollywood, Australia, UK, and Jordan. Two of the readers are have Arabic roots or are regionally based.
