Ground permit requirements

  1. Abu Dhabi Film Commission form
  2. Ministry Of Interior (MOI) form - When completing the MOI form you will notice it is a scanned copy. If you have more than 8 crew members, please use an excel or word sheet to add the extra names. Kindly note, we need all the names of crew    who are involved in the ground filming.
  3. Information form – to be completed by all crew members.
  4. Cover letter from the production company - This letter should be addressed to ‘Whom it may concern’ and contain your interest in seeking permission to shoot in Abu Dhabi, information about the company, a brief description of what the project is about. This must be written on company letterhead paper, signed and stamped.
  5. Trade License of the production company.
  6. Passport + Visa copy of all crew members who are involved in the shoot, and these must be the same as those listed on the MOI form. If you obtain your visa upon arrival, you must send this to us upon entrance to the country.
  7. Script/Treatment clearance - for Documentaries and Narrative only

A Ground permit is for public locations only. For private settings, you need to contact the location directly. Obtaining a ground permit takes a minimum of two weeks once all the relevant paperwork has been successfully submitted and approved by Abu Dhabi FIlm Commission.

Aerial permit requirements

  1. Abu Dhabi Film Commission Aerial Permit form.
  2. Ministry Of Interior (MOI) Aerial form - Kindly note, this must contain the names of all the crew who are going to be in the helicopter, including the pilot.
  3. Information form – to be completed by all crew members including the pilot.
  4. Cover letter from the production company - This letter should be addressed to ‘Whom it may concern’ and contain your interest in seeking permission to shoot in Abu Dhabi, information about the company, a brief description of what the project is about and the list of locations where you want to shoot.    This must be written on company letterhead paper, signed and stamped.
  5. Trade License of the production company.
  6. Passport copy + Visa of all the crew who will be on the helicopter, including the pilot.
  7. List of equipment on board with serial numbers.
  8. Script/Treatment clearance - for Documentaries and Narrative only

Obtaining an aerial permit takes a minimum of three weeks once all the relevant paperwork has been successfully submitted and approved by Abu Dhabi FIlm Commission. If you are bringing in equipment, please refer to Customs information below.

Customs

If you are bringing equipment into Abu Dhabi you also need to complete a Customs Clearance Form. The form needs to be filled in with details of the equipment: description, brand, serial number and value (in Dirhams). On your arrival you will have to deposit 5% of the value of the equipment in cash (AED Dirhams) to the Customs Office at the arrivals, this will be reimbursed on your departure from the same office at the airport.

Please note that when you leave Abu Dhabi, you are required to report to the Customs Officer in arrivals with all the equipment you entered into Abu Dhabi with. In case you don’t clear it while exiting Abu Dhabi airport you will have to pay a fine.

Abu Dhabi Film Commission is not responsible for clearing equipment from other Emirates Airports.
